Zsigray's Curia

Zsigray’s Curia, Židovská Street. 17, Bratislava. Museum of Jewish Culture. Restoration of the 19th century street facade. National cultural monument.

The architecture of the Zsigray’s Curia is the result of construction stages The building was commissioned in the 17th century by the administrator of the Palfy estates under Bratislava Castle. The original two-storey building with a three-winged plan with a central passage was finished with an attic . The next owners, the Jesenaks, added on to the house in the 18th century. In 1880 the house was given another floor and a new facade in the Neo-Renaissance style. After the fire of Podhradie (1913) the house was rebuilt again.

Implementation

The main facade was restored in all architectural components. Above the original Renaissance portal, the facade has a distinctive articulation with a wide cornice at the level of the brick balcony on brackets. The plasterwork, architectural elements and relief elements have been restored to their original profile. The details of the gable filling with the coat of arms and other stucco elements have been restored. The drainage of the balcony platform and the plumbing elements were also completed. The facade was given a uniform colour scheme in a muted light grey tone.
