Application of basic glazes

A complete theoretical and practical course on the formulation and application of basic glazes and on the procedures for creating your own glazes with crystals. The course is taught by JOSÉ MARIA MARISCAL PANEQUE, member of the International Academy of Ceramics, Master Potter – Catalonia.

Porcelain, with its fine texture, purity and whiteness, allows me to explore the relationships between form and surface in a way that is more rewarding than with any other clay. The forms of the vessels thrown on the wheel offer endless possibilities for subtle variations, but my particular interest, in trying to achieve harmony and balance in the work, is to express my feelings for the natural world. The sky, sea and landscapes along with the abundance of plants are a constant source of wonder, inspiration and pleasure for me. Especially the sea and space have fascinated me since childhood. I consider crystalline glazes with the perfect amount of crystals between the background and the surface to be perfection. My forms are classic and conservative. I can’t stop exploring crystalline glazes and love to experiment with this technique in my gas kiln. Shape and crystals. Both crystals and shape…. are very important to me, and I like to work with my circle for hours and hours throwing and thinking about the end result after firing in my kiln. With the help of my wife I have written several articles for “Revista Ceramica” and I have given several workshops, for example in Dunedin, Tel Aviv, Pontevedra, at the ceramics school in Manises ( Spain ) or throwing demonstrations all over Europe ( Aubagne, Gouda, Gmunden, Belgium…. ). And in 2013 I hosted the 1st Crystalline Congress in La Bisbal ( Spain ). This congress was a nice opportunity to meet great potters from all over the world.
